Who we are
The Star Naming Co. and thestarnamingco.co.uk are trading names of Crowther Creative Products Limited (company number 04994959), registered office 6 Downlands, Harrietsham, Maidstone, Kent, ME17 1LE, United Kingdom — the data controller for this website. What we collect and why
- Order details (your name, email, billing details) — collected by Shopify when you buy, to process payment and send your confirmation. Legal basis: performance of a contract.
- Your dedication (the star name, personal message, and constellation you choose) — stored in our star register so your star page and certificates work, permanently, because that permanence is the product. Legal basis: performance of a contract.
- Basic technical logs (IP address, pages requested) — kept briefly by our hosting providers for security. Legal basis: legitimate interests.
We do not sell or share your details for marketing, and we only email you about your order unless you separately opt in to anything else.
A note on your star page
Your star page and certificate are reachable by anyone who has your registry number or link — that's how gift recipients view their star and how entries stay verifiable. The page shows the star name, dedication message, and registration date you chose. Please don't include personal information in a dedication that you wouldn't want the gift recipient (or anyone they share the link with) to see. We do not publish a browsable list of dedications.
Who processes your data for us
- Shopify — checkout, payment, and order emails
- Google (Sheets/Apps Script) — our star register
- Netlify — website hosting
Each acts as our processor under their standard data-processing terms; data may be processed outside the UK under appropriate safeguards (such as the UK extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses).
How long we keep it
Register entries (star name, dedication, registration date): permanently — that's the service. Order and payment records: as required by UK tax law (typically six years).
Cookies
This website sets no tracking or advertising cookies. Shopify's checkout uses strictly necessary cookies to operate the cart and payment.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it (including a dedication — though deleting a dedication removes the product it represents, so we'll confirm before acting). Email orders@thestarnamingco.co.uk and we'll respond within one month. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
