The five documents
All are A4. In the Physical Gift Pack they are printed on fine cream stock and sealed; with the digital gift you print all five at home, as often as you like.
The star itself
A genuine star from the Hipparcos and Tycho-2 astronomical catalogues, with its catalogue reference and real coordinates printed on your documents. It is dedicated once in our register and never offered again. You can choose the constellation — twelve to pick from, including star signs — or let us choose from anywhere in the sky.
The part most people did not expect
A star page of your own: an interactive sky map showing your star among its constellation, with your dedication on it, reachable by link from anywhere and verifiable by registry number. It does not expire. People send the link to the person they named it for, which is usually how the gift is actually given.
What you do not get, and we would rather say it
You do not get an official astronomical name. Only the International Astronomical Union assigns those and it does not sell them, so no company can give you one whatever it charges. You do not get legal ownership of anything in space. What you get is a real star, a name recorded against it permanently, documents worth keeping, and an entry anyone can check.
Common questions
What do you receive when you name a star?
A real catalogued star dedicated in our register, plus five personalised A4 documents: a certificate, a welcome letter, a star coordinates sheet with a sky chart, the story of the constellation and a sealed register extract. You also get their own permanent star page online, an e-gift reveal to send — and reprint at home, free, for life. The £19.99 Physical Gift Pack has all five printed on fine cream stock and posted free in the UK.
How long does it take to arrive?
The digital gift is ready within minutes of payment, including late at night and on Christmas Day. The Physical Gift Pack is posted free within the UK and is usually with you in a few days.
Can I print the documents myself?
Yes — the digital documents are designed to print at home on A4, and you can reprint at home, free, for life, from your star page. Many people print the certificate to frame and leave the rest on the star page.
Is the star really mine?
The dedication is yours: recorded once in our register, never resold, and publicly verifiable by its registry number. The star itself belongs to nobody, and no company can sell you ownership of one.
