Name a star for your mum
Last updated 21 October 2026
Mums are hard to buy for because they mean it when they say "don't get me anything". A named star gets round that. It isn't another thing for the shelf: it's a real, catalogued star, dedicated to her once in our register, with documents she can frame and a star page she can open on her phone whenever she likes.
What she receives
- A name certificate — their name, the registry number and the star's coordinates.
- A personalised welcome letter.
- A coordinates sheet with a sky chart — exactly where to look.
- The story of their constellation — its myth, and how to find it.
- A sealed extract from the register — the formal entry.
- Their own live star page, an e-gift reveal to send — and reprint at home, free, for life.
You write the star's name (her name, "Mum's Star", or the name only the family uses) and, if you want, a short message for the certificate. You choose the constellation: her star sign if it's one of our four zodiac constellations (Taurus, Gemini, Leo, Scorpius), or Cassiopeia, Ursa Major, Orion and the rest — or let us choose.

Ideas that work
- From the grandchildren — "Nana's Star", with the certificate framed for her wall.
- A milestone birthday — the registry number and date go on the certificate for good.
- For a new mum — name it for the day she became one. Our new baby guide has more.
- In her memory — if you're here because your mum has died, our memorial star page is written for you.
The honest bit
Star naming is symbolic — only the International Astronomical Union assigns official star names, and it doesn't sell them, to us or anyone. What's real: the star, its coordinates, and the dedication in our register, verifiable by anyone at any time. Read how it works and what it costs.
