Name a star for a new baby

From £9.99 — emailed in minutes, or printed and posted free Name a Star
A new baby is showered with beautiful, temporary things. A star named for them is the other kind of gift: a real, catalogued star, recorded in our register with their name the very week they arrived — theirs for life.
Why it works as a baby gift
- It's dated — the certificate carries the registration date; name it the week of the birth and the timing itself becomes part of the story.
- It grows with them — a nursery-wall certificate becomes a bedtime story becomes the night they first find their own star through a telescope.
- It can't be duplicated — three people may bring the same teddy; only one person can name this star.
- New parents love the reveal — send the e-gift link to exhausted parents at 3am and give them a minute of wonder.
Christenings and naming days
A star naming is quietly perfect for a christening or naming ceremony — the certificate can be presented on the day, and the wording of the register entry ("and shall henceforth be known within it as…") reads beautifully aloud. The £19.99 Physical Gift Pack arrives printed on fine cream stock, ready to gift at the font. For twins, or a new brother or sister, the £29.99 Twin Star Gift Pack names two neighbouring stars in the same constellation together on one landscape certificate, with seven documents posted free in one pack.
Practical notes
Choose any star name — "Baby Oliver", their full name, or a family nickname. Add a message for the certificate ("Welcome to the world, little one", for example). Pick a constellation with meaning — born under Leo or Gemini? — or let the sky decide with "surprise me". The Digital Gift Pack arrives within minutes; the Physical Gift Pack is posted free within 24 hours.
The honest bit
Star naming is symbolic — only the International Astronomical Union assigns official star names, and it doesn't sell them. What's real: the star, its coordinates, and the dedication in our register, verifiable by anyone, any time — including by them, when they're old enough to ask. Read how it works.
Common questions
Is a star a good gift for a newborn?
It outlasts everything else they are given. The toys go and the clothes are outgrown; the star stays exactly where it is, carrying their name, and you can reprint at home, free, for life — so the certificate can be framed again at 18, or at 21.
Which constellation should we choose?
Some parents pick the constellation overhead in the baby's birth month, or their zodiac constellation if it is Taurus, Gemini, Leo or Scorpius. If you would rather not choose, we will select one from anywhere in the sky.
Can grandparents or godparents give this?
Yes. The dedication can be worded from anyone, and the e-gift reveal link makes it easy to send if you are not there in person.
What if the name changes later?
On a Digital Gift Pack we are happy to change the name at no charge — just ask, then reprint at home, free, for life. If you change your mind, tell us within 14 working days of your order for a full refund.
