Graduation is a date people want to keep. A star named for the graduate does that: a real, catalogued star, dedicated to them in our register with the date and your message, and documents they can frame beside the degree certificate.

The honest bit

Star naming is symbolic — only the International Astronomical Union assigns official star names, and it doesn't sell them, to us or anyone. What's real: the star, its coordinates, and the dedication in our register, verifiable by anyone at any time. Read how it works and what it costs.

Common questions

Can I put the graduation date on the certificate?

Yes. Add it, with the degree or a short line, in the message for the certificate. The registration date is printed on it too.

How quickly does it arrive?

The Digital Gift Pack arrives by email within minutes. The Physical Gift Pack is printed and posted within one working day, free in the UK.

Will they be able to see the star?

The constellation, yes; the star itself usually needs binoculars or a small telescope, because our stars are magnitude 6.5 or fainter. The coordinates work in any stargazing app or GoTo telescope.

Is it an official star name?

No. Only the International Astronomical Union assigns official star names, and it does not sell them. The star is real and catalogued, and the dedication is recorded once in our register.
