Name a star as a wedding gift
Last updated 21 October 2026
Wedding gifts tend to come off a list. A star named for the couple doesn't, which is why it stands out on the table. Name it for both of them ("Emma & James"), add the wedding date and a line to the certificate, and a real catalogued star is dedicated to them once in our register.
Ways it gets used
- A guest's gift. The Physical Gift Pack fits in a card-sized envelope on the gift table.
- Morning-of-the-wedding gift. From bride to groom, groom to groom, bride to bride — sent as an e-gift reveal before the ceremony.
- In the speech. The best man or maid of honour announces it; the star page is on a phone, ready to show.
- For a first anniversary. Paper is the traditional first-anniversary gift, and the pack is five sheets of it. See our anniversary page.
- Remembering someone absent. Some couples name a star for a parent or grandparent who isn't there to see the day. Our memorial page explains how.
What the couple receive
- A name certificate — their name, the registry number and the star's coordinates.
- A personalised welcome letter.
- A coordinates sheet with a sky chart — exactly where to look.
- The story of their constellation — its myth, and how to find it.
- A sealed extract from the register — the formal entry.
- Their own live star page, an e-gift reveal to send — and reprint at home, free, for life.

The honest bit
Star naming is symbolic — only the International Astronomical Union assigns official star names, and it doesn't sell them, to us or anyone. What's real: the star, its coordinates, and the dedication in our register, verifiable by anyone at any time. Read how it works and what it costs.
Common questions
Can I put the wedding date on the certificate?
Yes. Add it in the message for the certificate, along with a short line for the couple. The registration date is printed on the certificate too.
Can the star be named after both of them?
Yes. The star name is your choice, so it can carry both names.
Is it posted in a way that fits on a gift table?
The Physical Gift Pack is five A4 documents, sealed and posted flat; it is £19.99 with free UK delivery and is posted within one working day.
Is it an official star name?
No. Only the International Astronomical Union assigns official star names, and it does not sell them. The star is real and catalogued, and the dedication is recorded once in our register and never resold.
