Name a star for your girlfriend, boyfriend or partner
Last updated 21 October 2026
Naming a star is one of the few romantic gifts that is genuinely about the two of you. You choose the name — their name, a nickname, or something like "Us" — and a message for the certificate. A real, catalogued star is dedicated to it once in our register and never offered to anyone else.
Make it personal
- The name. Their name is lovely. A shared joke or the name of the place you met is better.
- The message. Short works best on the certificate: a date, a line from your first message, "Look up — that one's yours."
- The constellation. Their star sign (Taurus, Gemini, Leo or Scorpius), Lyra for a couple who met over music, Cygnus the swan, or Andromeda — or let us surprise you.
- The moment. Send the e-gift reveal and they open the sky on their phone with your message, or give the printed pack in person.
What they receive
- A name certificate — their name, the registry number and the star's coordinates.
- A personalised welcome letter.
- A coordinates sheet with a sky chart — exactly where to look.
- The story of their constellation — its myth, and how to find it.
- A sealed extract from the register — the formal entry.
- Their own live star page, an e-gift reveal to send — and reprint at home, free, for life.

If they're a sceptic
Some people roll their eyes at star naming, usually because they've heard it's a scam. The pretence that it's official is the scam; the gift isn't. We say on every page that the name is symbolic, and the star, its coordinates and the register entry are all real and checkable. If anything, that's the more romantic version: you're not pretending, you're choosing a point in the sky and saying "that's ours".
For specific occasions, see Valentine's Day, anniversaries and weddings.
The honest bit
Star naming is symbolic — only the International Astronomical Union assigns official star names, and it doesn't sell them, to us or anyone. What's real: the star, its coordinates, and the dedication in our register, verifiable by anyone at any time. Read how it works and what it costs.
Common questions
Is naming a star for my girlfriend or boyfriend romantic or cheesy?
That depends on the name and the message you choose, which is the point. Done personally, with a name only the two of you understand, most people find it romantic. Being honest that it is symbolic helps with sceptics.
Can we name a star after both of us?
Yes. The star name can be any name you choose, such as both your names or a shared nickname, and the message on the certificate can mention you both.
How quickly does it arrive?
The Digital Gift Pack arrives by email within minutes, any hour of any day. The Physical Gift Pack is printed and posted within one working day, free in the UK.
Is it an official star name?
No, and no company can sell one. Only the International Astronomical Union assigns official star names, and it does not sell them. Your star is a real catalogued star, dedicated once in our register and publicly verifiable.
