What we do
We dedicate a real, catalogued star to the name you choose, record it in our register, and send the documents that go with it:
- A name certificate — their name, the registry number and the star's coordinates.
- A personalised welcome letter.
- A coordinates sheet with a sky chart — exactly where to look.
- The story of their constellation — its myth, and how to find it.
- A sealed extract from the register — the formal entry.
- Their own live star page, an e-gift reveal to send — and reprint at home, free, for life.
The Digital Gift Pack is £9.99, emailed within minutes, worldwide. The Physical Gift Pack is £19.99, printed on fine cream stock and posted free in the UK. The Twin Star Gift Pack is £29.99: two neighbouring stars side by side on one certificate, posted free in the UK.
How we choose stars
Every star comes from the Hipparcos and Tycho-2 catalogues, compiled from the European Space Agency's Hipparcos mission, in the part of the sky that can be seen from the UK. You choose the constellation, or let us choose. When payment is confirmed, a star that has never been dedicated is allocated automatically, and its catalogue reference (HIP or TYC) and coordinates are printed on the documents, so anyone can look it up in an astronomical database.
Our register
The Star Naming Co. Register records each star with the name and message you gave and its registry number. Each star in our register can only be named once. Anyone can check an entry by its registry number on our find your star page, and each star is named for eternity on our database. Our terms say what happens to the register if we ever stop trading.

The honest bit
Star naming is symbolic — only the International Astronomical Union assigns official star names, and it doesn't sell them, to us or anyone. What's real: the star, its coordinates, and the dedication in our register, verifiable by anyone at any time. Read how it works and what it costs.
