Name a star for your husband

From £9.99 — emailed in minutes, or printed and posted free Name a Star
Husbands are famously hard to buy for, and many of them are happiest with something they can look into. A named star gives him both: a gift with your message on it, and a real star from the Hipparcos and Tycho-2 catalogues, with its catalogue reference and coordinates printed on the documents. He can type those into any stargazing app or GoTo telescope and land on it.
Make it his
- The name. His name, the nickname only you use, or both your names together.
- The date. Your wedding day, his birthday or the day you met, in the message on the certificate.
- The constellation. Orion and Ursa Major (the Plough) are the two most people can already find; his star sign works if it's Taurus, Gemini, Leo or Scorpius.
- The moment. Send the e-gift reveal to his phone, or hand over the printed pack.
For the husband who checks
- The coordinates are real. Right ascension and declination, to the second of arc.
- The register is public. Anyone can look up the entry by its registry number on our find your star page.
- He'll probably need kit to see the star itself. The constellation is easy; most of our stars need a telescope. Our honest guide to seeing it has the numbers.

The honest bit
Star naming is symbolic — only the International Astronomical Union assigns official star names, and it doesn't sell them, to us or anyone. What's real: the star, its coordinates, and the dedication in our register, verifiable by anyone at any time. Read how it works and what it costs.
Common questions
Can I name a star after my husband?
Yes, symbolically. You choose the name and a message, and a real catalogued star is dedicated to it in The Star Naming Co. Register. It is not an official astronomical name: only the International Astronomical Union assigns those, and it does not sell them.
Can he find the star with a telescope?
Yes. The right ascension and declination on the coordinates sheet work in any GoTo telescope and in apps such as Stellarium or SkySafari. From a dark site, about a third of our stars are within reach of a 70–80mm telescope and most need 100mm or more; only about 5% are bright enough for binoculars.
Can we name a star each?
Yes. The Twin Star Gift Pack (£29.99) names two neighbouring stars in the same constellation, side by side on one landscape certificate, printed on fine cream stock and posted free in the UK.
How much does it cost?
£9.99 for the Digital Gift Pack by email within minutes; £19.99 for the Physical Gift Pack, printed and posted free in the UK; or £29.99 for the Twin Star Gift Pack, two stars posted free in one pack.
